Apple hosted a special event in San Jose, CA to announce new product including the highly anticipated iPad Mini. What we weren’t expecting was the introduction of the 4th generation iPad. The latest installment of the iPad is much of a refresher to elder models. Featuring the new A6X silicon with quad-core graphics, the 4th generation iPad ups its performance and speed on all levels. With dual-band 802.11 a/b/g/n WiFi, a 720p FaceTime camera with LTE and a new image processor, it also sees the reversible lightening port seen on the iPhone 5. Pricing remains the same starting at $499 USD.
The star of the show however was the iPad Mini. Coming in a 7.9-inch display, the mini features the same 1,024×768 display along with A5 CPU. Equipped with a 5 megapixel camera and LTE modem, the 7.2mm thick device weighs in at just .68 lbs. Much of these specs don’t mimic that of the traditional iPad, but for a smaller price point starting at $329 USD, the mini isn’t at all a bad option. Look for AT&T, Sprint and Verizon to begin shipping the devices on November 2nd.
